The Highest Waterfalls in Indonesia


12. Grojogan Sewu Waterfall (81 meters)
Grojogan Sewu located at Karanganyar Regency, Grojogan sewu is one of tourism program that called "INTANPARI" ( Industri Pertanian Pariwisata ) it means Industry Botani and Tourism. Grojogan Sewu is located at Mount Lawu (2632 meter), the location are 27 kilo meter from Karanganyar Regency. Grojogan sewu means thousand waterfall. Although there is no thousand waterfall there, you still can enjoy some waterfalls there. The highest waterfall at Grojogan Sewu have 81 meter high from bottom to the top, the forest sight make this waterfall have tractive power for tourist.


11. Curug Cimahi Waterfall (85 meters)
Water, one of the basic elements in this world, has a soothing effect. The sight of a waterfall, combined with calming greeneries, is bound to mesmerize the beholder. Located in Cisarua Village, approximately 10 kilometers from Cimahi, or about an hour from Bandung, Curug (Sundanese for "waterfall") Cimahi is suitable for people who want to "escape" from metropolitan area but have little time to travel. The 85 meters high waterfall is indeed a magnificent sight.


10. Curug Cipendok Waterfall (92 meters)
Located on Karang Tengah village, Cilingok district, about 25km from Purwokerto. The height of this waterfall is 92 m and surrounded with a beautiful natural forest.
9. Curup Tenang Waterfall (99 meters)
It is the highest waterfall in South Sumatra, located near Bedegung village in Tanjung Agung district, about 56 kilometers South of Muara Enim Regency. Rich in the number of small as well as big rivers flowing through this province, waterfalls of various sizes come with them too. Tenang_ waterfall where the water smashes down from 99 meters height into a deep pool and further downstream in a strong current. It can reach by public transportation and takes 2 hours from Palembang, however, less by private car. The Muara Enim regency, two hours from Palembang, is a land of rivers and waterfalls.

8. moramo falls (100 meters)
No other in Indonesia is quite like the Moramo Waterfall. It is unique in traversing a 2 Km plateau, with 127 separate terraced plumes, with the top of the waterfall some 100 meters above is basin pool. The falls have seven main terraces, each with its own natural bathing pool.This combination produces clean, fresh, cool air in the shade production tropical, jungle-forest setting, which surrounds the falls. This is the perfect habitat for Southeast Sulawesi's native animals and birds. Those who love nature at its purest will find this an ideal environment. Only 65 km east of Kendari, Moramo Waterfall is easily accessible by car or by boat, crossing Moramo Bay, with wide panoramic scenery of the sea.

Citambur Waterfall, a waterfall that the height approximately 100 meters in Karang Jaya Village, Pagelaran Sub District, South Cianjur, West Java, Java Island, Indonesia. The water was very cold and there is no one that is brave bathed in fallen of the water. The body will hurt very much when being fallen on water because of the volume quite big, bigger and higher than Cimahi Waterfall in the Cisarua area, Bandung District.The waterfall that has location in South Ciwidey, Bandung District, that the distance approximately 40 km, had beautiful scenery. Around the waterfall always was covered the thin fog and the so hard fallen water voice and sometimes come between by the voice of thrush birds, as though enriching the symphony of the voice of region nature. Was there feel like in the wild that still “virgin”, often was not yet touched the hands of humankind. The tourist attraction was still exotic.

6. Sedudo Waterfall (105 meters)
Sedudo Waterfall located at Ngliman, Sawahan district. Reachable from Nganjuk about 30 km. The air is fresh and cool. This location is often visited by many of people especially during Suro, one of months of the Javanese year. An impressive waterfall of more than 100 metres high, Sedudo Falls - like many other falls, springs, and wells in Java is believed to be something of a fountain of youth. The district goverment and the public around, always held a traditional ceremony every Suro. According to them, Sedudo Waterfall was used to bath statue in Parna Prahista ceremony, then the water spattered to the body in order to get a safety and eternal youth. The traditional ceremony of taking up Sedudo sacral water as the sign to begin the public bathing is done by 12 girls with long hair and boys. The form this procession is taking a bath together in the pool under Sedudo waterfall, and held every Suro (the first Javanese month). This procession is led by the Regent of Nganjuk and followed by the local visitors, and the tourist who come from the whole Java. After taking a bath, still on the Sedudo area, the visitors are entertained with the traditional art named Jedor.

5. Jarakan Waterfall (115 meters)
Jarakan Waterfall is located in Ngancar village, Plaosan District. This Jarakan Waterfall as part of Waterfall tourism object area that developed by Magetan regency government. Jarakan Waterfall is located about 80 meters above Watu Ondo Waterfall. With its waterfall height is about 35 meters. In this waterfall base there is small pool where the tourists can take a bath or clean face.In the near of Jarakan waterfall, lied pasir mas ( pasir means sand and mas means gold ). Pasir mas is a small pond, this pond will reflected goldie yellow light when it is lightened by the sun.

4. Sipisopiso Waterfall (120 meters)
The Sipisopiso is a plunge waterfall in the Batak highlands of Sumatra. It is formed by a small underground river of the Karo plateau that hurls itself from a cave in the side of the lake Toba caldera some 120 meters (360 feet) down to lake level. This fact earns it the title for the highest waterfall in Indonesia. Sipisopiso is a well-known tourist attraction and a nearby vantage point offers great vistas of the fall and the lake.Sipisopiso waterfall is located in the Tanah Karo regency, at the northernmost tip of the Lake Toba caldera, near the fishing village of Tongging. The closest municipality, about 25 kilometers away, is the town of Kabanjahe.

3. Payakumbuh Waterfall in Harau Canyon (150 meters)
Payakumbuh is a picturesque village and market place. Fine basketry is available here. It is 35 km from Bukittinggi and a little further up is the most dramatic view on the Harau Valley. Harau canyon, near Payakumbuh is a deep canyon with beautiful waterfall and many butterflies. Near Lake Meninjau, Batang Palapuh a sanctuary, giant rafflesia flowers are sometime found.
2. Madakaripura Waterfall (200 meters)
Madakaripura waterfall located in Sapih village, Lombang district, East Java, Indonesia. not far from Mount Bromo area. Madakaripura is a sacred visiting area comprising lines of waterfalls. its reaches a height of 200 meters from the bottom. This waterfall have a related history with a great Prime Ministry, Gajah Mada, who strongly struggled to unify the whole territory of Indonesia under span of control of Majapahit, and said as “the last residence for Gajah Mada”. This spectacular waterfall lies hidden at the end of a deep valley in the foothills of the Tengger range. The water has cascades from the dense forest above. The primary attraction is its natural environment that is encircled by 7 waterfalls and caves. The available facilities are include: parking lot, food stalls, resting place and security post. The fatigue and exhaustion one undergoes from climbing the peak of Bromo, would immediately gone after getting a bathe with the holy Tirta Sewana so to continue the travel to other visiting points in Probolinggo area.

1. Siguragura Waterfall (250 meters)
The Sigura-gura Waterfall harnesess the water of the Asahan river for the generation electricity. The river channels the water from Lake Toba and disgorges it into Malacca Strait. Panorama Hutanginjang is a resort which Dutch planters of government officials built during the pre-war days. It still serves as a popular mountain holiday resort. In its surroundings are many bungalows that the cater to visitors. The resort is located not far from the Sigura-gura waterfall, at a distance of about 250 kilometers from Medan.
