The Secret of Raja Ampat (The Four Kings)

Welcome to Raja Ampat Islands

Located off the northwest tip of Bird's Head Peninsula on the island of New Guinea, in Indonesia's West Papua province, Raja Ampat, or the Four Kings, is an archipelago comprising over 1,500 small islands, cays and shoals surrounding the four main islands of Misool, Salawati, Batanta and Waigeo. It encompasses more than 9.8 million acres (40,000 km²) of land and sea, which also contains Cenderawasih Bay, the largest marine national park in Indonesia. It is a part of the newly named West Papua (province) of Indonesia which was formerly Irian Jaya.If you had watched The Beach movie starring Leonardo Di Caprio, you will find the same impression when visiting Raja Ampat. The lost paradise deserved to be named for this place because in fact Indonesians personally often didnt know about this place. The beautiful coast, white sand and underwater scenery that were beautiful became the attraction of Raja Ampat.
wealth such as natural beauty of the sea that is still pure, with a variety of fish and beautiful marine base down, which we are interested to dive in there. Tropical forest so dense that the various types of flora and fauna that add beauty and balance of ecosystems, to make every man want to enjoy them, that is the gift of God is incalculable value, so please wait let alone a visit to Raja Ampat islands in West Irian Jaya, Papua.

Raja Ampat (“The Four Kings”) refers to four large jungle-clad islands (Batanta, Waigeo, Mysool and Salawati) which are part of a 600 islands and islets archipelago west of the coast of the Vogelskop or Bird’s Head Peninsula in West Papua, formerly known as Irian Jaya (this is the half of the island of Papua New Guinea politically belonging to Indonesia today). Culturally and historically rather similar to the Malukus (or Moluccas), the islands of Raja Ampat were ruled in the 15th Century by the Sultanate of Tidore, originating from Halmahera in the Malukus, and offer today unsurpassed topside scenic beauty, crystal-clear water and an unbelievable richness of marine life. The region can be easily reached with a short turboprop flight by local airlines from Manado in Northern Sulawesi to Sorong, the harbour town from which transfer boats leave to Kri and Sorido Eco Resorts.
All this, however beautiful, pales in front of the diving. Diving in Raja Ampat is diving right in the middle of the great vortex of creation – the final frontier, a forgotten world which is nowhere else to be found. Immense walls of fish surround you everywhere, numbering hundreds or thousands of individuals: literally enveloped by living walls of jacks, barracudas, sweetlips, surgeonfishes and fusiliers.
You can also witness other unique species such as pigmy seahorse, webbegong, manta ray and endemic fish called eviota raja (king eviota). One of the best spots is Chicken Reef, where you'll be surrounded by thousands of fish, bamboo sharks and snappers. There are just too many species in Raja Ampat, so unless you're a scientist, it's best to enjoy watching them rather than naming every one of them! Not only underwarter, Raja Ampat also offers amazing experiences inland. The sunset view is legendary. Lots of caves and historical sites to explore. Plus traditional villages you can visit. Here, there are as many experiences as the number of marine species. So when you visit Raja Ampat, forget about counting the wonders. Just enjoy them.

"No doubt about it, Raja Ampat is definitely the richest place for fish, that I have ever been." --Dr G.R. Allen

"I was like a five-year-old, seeing a reef for the very first time. I was awestruck, held by the incredible power of this richest reef. We must, with all available resources, preserve the beauty of Raja Ampat. This may be the last frontier." --Michael Aw

"I love the people, I love the diving, it's super! I've never been for a second time to the same dive destination but now I'm thinking about going back for the third time! Should I say more?" --Peter van Dalen

Thanks for this post. Raja Ampat includes hundreds of smaller islands. The archipelago of this area also includes an area the Bird’s Head functional seascape; it has Cenderawasih Bay and the largest Marine national park in Indonesia. Raja Ampat Island is a biological frontier, a complete habitat, plankton as the fortifying agent. The water is nothing bright or gentle but murky and powerful currents and so full of life.
